About Me

So who am I?

My name is Steve R. Robbins and I am the editor of this site. The first and most logical question a visitor has is, on what authority do I have to be giving advice. Good question. Let’s answer it.

First and foremost I am not a professional anything when it comes to bodybuilding and fitness. Nor am I a professional in the field of medicine or nutrition. What I am is just like 99.99% of the people you see and meet everyday. What does separate me from most is that I can bench press twice my weight right now, throw on a pair of running shoes and run a marathon. Oh, and I just celebrated my 51st birthday a few months ago.

I do know what works, at least for me, and how to be fit. I live it everyday.

After leaving collage in 1980 I was 5’9’’ tall and weighed 149 lbs. I was athletic and being active physically came natural for me. But what I wanted most was to not be “small”. Hard to make yourself taller, so I opted for bigger and stronger. By the time I was 35 I weighed in at 161, with most of the 12 lb gain around the waist. Yet I had knocked around gyms and had tried to “get big” all this time. And then it happened. A series of accidents at work left me with constant low back pain.  A trip to the doctor and 2 herniated discs later, the advice given was surgery and 3 months recovery or 6 months traction, no physical activity. I couldn’t do either. I had to make a living. So I lived with the pain. By the time I was 40 I had met and become good friends with a Physical Therapist who offered up a targeted lifting program as a way to strengthen my lower back. Bingo!

By using his program, and modifying it to meet my desire to strengthen and build muscle everywhere, I still stand only 5’9” (maybe even 5’8” now), but my weight is 190 with a 32 inch waist, 18 inch arms and a 49 inch chest. I can and do run marathons, though I hate cardio and am giving it up. I haven’t been sick in 10 years and I am pain free in the low back.

What worked for me is spelled out on every page and in every article that you see on this site. Nothing magical. Get your mind right. Get a plan and stick to it.  Low rep, high weight serious lifting. Whey protein and creatine. Eat right. Have a routine bedtime and get your rest. Simple, yet seemingly difficult to do, clean healthy living. I am stronger, bigger and leaner at 51 than I was at 21, 31 and 41. Hopefully you will find things to read here that can do the same for you.
